Lady Royals Roll on the Road
The Lake Region State College Lady Royals basketball team traveled to Williston, ND to take on the Williston State College Tetons. Coming into the game Lake Region State was 12-7 (1-0) and Williston was 2-15 (0-1).
The Lady Royals did not waste any time establishing themselves in the game. During the first quarter, the Royals pressed the Tetons forcing turnovers that would lead to buckets. Lake Region jumped out to a 19-8 lead. Williston State would not go away easy, they would make a run in the second closing the gap to 6 points. LRSC would take a timeout to regroup. That is when the focus would shift to Maggie Gilbert on the inside to get things going. She would respond, scoring a couple buckets out of the timeout on her way to 14 points on 7 of 13 shooting for the game. The 8-0 run near the end of the second would help give LRSC the lead 38-23 heading into the half. In the second half the bench would get in on the action for Lake Region. Bailey Lamp poured in 10 points and every Royals player would play more than 5 minutes in the game. A 25 point 3rd quarter would seal it for LRSC. The final 72-52 in favor of the Lady Royals.
Head Coach Danny Mertens would say after the game, "This was a total team effort tonight. Everyone contributed in their own way. Defensively we were solid all around. We turned Williston over 31 times, held them to 13% from 3 and under 40% from the field. That made a big difference for us."
With the win the Lady Royals move to 13-7 (2-0) on the season. They will be back in action Sunday versus Dawson CC at the sportscenter.
