The Royals volleyball team wrapped up their season on Wednesday, October 26th in Wahpeton against NDSCS. The Royals played tough, but ultimately lost the match 0-3 (19-25, 23-25, 15-25). They made it to the second round of play-offs after beating Dakota County Technical College 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-18) in the first round. The team finished the season with an overall record of 24-13, and finished 3rd in the conference with a record of 6-6.
“This team set goals at the beginning of the season, and they worked hard every day to achieve those goals. The improvements that were made with this group was phenomenal, and they pushed themselves and each other every day in practice. Most importantly, this team had a team mentality; each of these players did whatever they could to ensure that the team was being successful; I’m so impressed with the selfless nature of each of these players, and this team was so fun to coach, and exciting to watch all season long,” Waddell said.
The Royals will graduate six sophomores who have been a steady member of the squad for the last two years: Jozey Goodall (New London, MN), Lexi Telehey (Thompson, ND), Ashley McFadgen (Valley City, ND), Audrey Welle (Melrose, MN), Maddie Stefonowicz (Thompson, ND), and Mencia Rodriguez Medio (Gijon, Spain). “Even though we are losing some really strong players from this year’s squad, their legacy will help to build our program for the future. They were all great leaders, and they helped our freshman this year to adapt to the college game and were instrumental to our success. There will be huge shoes to fill, but because of their hard work and determination, LRSC Volleyball will continue to grow and thrive because of the mark that these six players have left on the program,” Waddell said.
The Royals return a strong nucleus for next season, and they should continue to improve and be exciting to watch again next season.
