Bio

A native of Rockford, MN, Steve Waddell will begin his seventh season as a collegiate volleyball coach this year at Lake Region State College.

This past season, Coach Waddell saw great success, finishing with an overall record of 29-11 which is the winningest season in Lake Region Volleyball history. The Royals battled all the way to the Region championship match, where they eventually lost. Sydney Schwabe (1st team), Anne Stroklund (2nd team), and Torri Fee (2nd team) were all selected to Mon-Dak All-Conference team’s last season.

In his tenure at Lake Region State, Coach Waddell has amassed over 100 wins and is the fastest to reach that goal of all time at LRSC. He has coached 7 all-conference players and has continued to put an emphasis on recruiting and keeping local talent.

Prior to coming to Lake Region, Waddell was a head and assistant coach for a variety of teams throughout central Minnesota, most recently coaching at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa High School. While at BBE, the team placed 4th at the Class A State Tournament in 2018 and 6th in 2019. Throughout his coaching career, Waddell has amassed over 200 wins and was the 2018 Section 5A Assistant Coach of the Year, and the 2019 Central MN Conference Head Coach of the Year.

Waddell attended St. Cloud State University where he was a member of the SCSU Men’s Volleyball Club. Throughout his playing career, he earned All-Conference during his sophomore through senior seasons, and he was named to the National Championships All-Tournament team, where his team placed 5th overall.

On top of coaching, Waddell also teaches Sociology at Lake Region State College.
